The hidden treasures of Krka

The number of visitors allowed in Krka National Park is limited. In 2017, the new procedure determines access to the Krka  National Park at 10,000 visitors at any one time. Krka National Park is the most interactive National Park in Croatia. Therefore, this decision was necessary. While Plitvice lakes forbid swimming in its water before a decade ago, Krka still permits visitors to come in a large number.

National parks, especially Krka National Park is a perfect place if you are looking for peace, relaxation, and view at unique natural beauty.

Every year, more than 1 million people wondered at Krka waterfalls and Skradinski buk, the island monastery of Visovac, the most visited places in this area.  Since shoulder season is April through June and September through October, when Krka National Park, for example, last year, received over 3.5 tourists, it was necessary to reduce visitors loads at the most attractive sites.  In order to preserve for future generations Skradinski buk, the longest, the most famous and the most visited waterfall on the Krka river, and one of the most famous natural beauties in Croatia but also allow tourists to have a complete experience of nature and cultural and historical heritage.

Also, in order to upgrade quality content for tourists, Krka waterfalls have launched a new project called “Unknown Krka: the hidden treasures˝. Environmental protection, development and infrastructure, visitor managing,  cooperation with the local community, and educational and presentation activities are in this project that will certainly have a positive impact on the overall development of the whole Knin – Šibenik county. Krka National Park attracts visitors primarily interested in natural and cultural heritage and education. This project offers completely new and different Krka Waterfalls. They shall also seek to use the economic northern part of Krka National Park and to achieve a better spatial and temporal distribution of visitors and overall social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of the area. This is a good example for other National Parks in Croatia which direction of tourists developing would need to go.
